THE STORY:
On Monday, April 21, 2014, the Museum of Science Boston Marathon® team will lace up their sneakers in support of Traveling Programs, which brings science programs to more than 100,000 students annually in schools, community centers, and libraries.
For 18 years, Traveling Programs has been offering outreach programs to schools, libraries, and community organizations. We started with just three part time employees and a single inflatable planetarium that we used during our astronomy programs. Since then we have evolved into the largest museum outreach provider in New England, offering 25 different programs on a wide variety of science subjects such as chemistry, physics, weather, animal biology, astronomy, and engineering.
In the past eight years we have significantly expanded the program, adding four additional full-time educators and two new vehicles. We now have eight full-time educators and a fleet of six vehicles. With our continued growth, Traveling Programs is able to bring affordable science enrichment programs to even more children and adults throughout New England.
This year, we’re hoping to raise more than $80,000 in support of Traveling Programs. The funds raised by our marathon runners will support scholarships, program expansion, and more, and will make a huge impact on the programming we can offer.
